I design for exhibits, print, and the web. I create effective digital imagery for a wide variety of media and work closely with production contractors to attain desired final product.
Publishing skills also include research, writing, substantive and copy editing, proofreading, and fact-checking. Have done localization work (redesign and re-layout of previously published materials for different language markets).
Can serve in a number of areas on a web team.
In addition to exhibit design, I have worked on content development, including research, writing, and editing, and have worked on the development, production and direction of video presentations and interactive exhibits.
I have also done network television graphics.
Special training includes coursework for human factors engineering usability analysis (CUA certified 2008), proofreading and editing courses from Barbara Hart of Publications Professionals LLC, and on-the-job editorial training from Shirley Sirota Rosenberg, who developed George Washington University’s capstone course in their publishing program, “The Consummate Editor." I earned Webmaster Certification from USDA in 2000.
After many years in exhibition development at the Smithsonian Institution (Museum of American Art and Renwick Gallery) and The Navy Museum at the Naval Historical Center, I made my part-time business, ANARTIST & Associates, full time.
I perform design work and coordination of design in various arenas ranging from exhibit and print to web. Clients have included the following: SSR Incorporated, National Society of Colonial Dames of America, the Swiss Embassy, CMHC St. Elizabeth’s, SCAR (Society for Computer Assisted Radiology), National Museum of Women in the Arts, Kinnard Design, Fantasia Antiques, Artisan Lamp Company and the Church of Two Worlds.
I have done copy editing, fact and reference checking, web research, light substantive editing, and team and single proofreading. Have done fresh eye and have been final reader. Am familiar with Chicago, APA and AP style manuals, client-specific style sheets, and publication-specific mini-style sheets. Was associate editor for A Portrait of Leadership, A Fighter for Health: The Honorable Paul Grant Rogers. Have in various editorial capacities on publications in health care, education, social and political issues, and other humanities areas. Have worked on the U.S. Navy’s expanded version of Mud, Muscles, and Miracles. Have also done fact checking for Michael Greger’s http://birdflubook.com/. Have done design for print and PDF publication. I have edited a combination cookbook and travelogue by a Washington DC area food writer, to be published in 2009, and have designed and supervised the publishing of a limited-edition family history and memoir for Ruth Shapiro of Bethesda MD.
